  1. CARNAC STONE ALIGNMENTS: 2000 BC

  3.   Six ancient stone alignments (dating back to 2000 BC) 
  4. were probably constructed by people of the Beaker 
  5. people (so named for their characteristic pottery) in 
  6. what today is southern Brittany, France. The largest 
  7. of these alignments consists of 11 parallel rows of 
  8. 1100 granite stones which extend over a mile. Two of 
  9. these alignments have stone circles (similar to 
  10. stonehenge) at their ends which were used for 
  11. astronomical purposes such as predicting the date of 
  12. the summer solstice.
