CARNAC STONE ALIGNMENTS: 2000 BC
Six ancient stone alignments (dating back to 2000 BC)
were probably constructed by people of the Beaker
people (so named for their characteristic pottery) in
what today is southern Brittany, France. The largest
of these alignments consists of 11 parallel rows of
1100 granite stones which extend over a mile. Two of
these alignments have stone circles (similar to
stonehenge) at their ends which were used for
astronomical purposes such as predicting the date of
the summer solstice.
